(LRG) elements enclosed in a sleek package. It's motor design is derivative
of the acclaimed R84 motor with improvments in the high-end response,
which was itself inspired by the design of the venerated RCA 44. The
R88 is optimized for natural frequency response and precise stereo
imaging. It's large ribbon geometry design inherits the extended bass
of the classic R44 and critically acclaimed R84 microphones. The clean
and smooth treble of the R88 is very flattering to complex tones such
as woodwinds, strings, and cymbals. The R88 is an excellent orchestral

Our Active Series ribbon mics are as
sensitive as condenser microphones, allowing you to use practically
any mic preamplifier or board pre (even those of nominal characteristics).
Conventional ribbon microphones are, on average, 15 to 20 dB less
sensitive than condenser mics, necessitating the use of high-quality,
high-gain microphone preamplifiers for recording softer sound sources
like acoustic instruments, vocals and room ambience. The Active Series
ribbon mics, starting with the R-122, contain fully balanced, discrete
head amplifier systems utilizing ultra-low noise FET’s. This system,
designed by David Royer and Rick Perrotta, is extremely quiet, can
handle 135 dB SPL and allows our Active Series ribbons to deliver
a sensitivity of –38 dB! Go ahead and plug an R-122 into any preamplifier

The SF-1 is an ultra-compact, monaural
ribbon microphone, exhibiting flat frequency response and a well-balanced,
panoramic soundfield. The SF-1 has superb transient response due to
its ultra low-mass 1.8-micron ribbon assembly. Frequency response
is excellent regardless of the angle of sound striking the ribbon,
and off-axis coloration is negligible. The heart of the SF-1 is it's
ribbon transducer proprietary cross-field motor assembly. Comprised
of four powerful Neodymium magnets and Permendur iron pole-pieces,
the cross-field design assures the shortest front-to-rear ribbon path
length for best high frequency response. The case is fashioned from
ingot iron and forms the magnetic return circuit, an effective system

The Royer/Speiden SF-12 stereo coincident
ribbon microphone is one of the finest devices of its kind, combining
high quality audio performance with outstanding stereo separation
and imaging. It is a modern ribbon design with no audible diffraction
effects or cavity resonance. An SF-12 is actually two matched microphones
placed one above the other, each aimed 45 degrees from center. The
frequency response is excellent regardless of the angle of sound striking
the ribbons and off-axis coloration is negligible. The SF-12's extension
cable comes with a Y adapter that splits into separate 3-pin male
XLR connectors. The two connectors are labeled "Upper" and "Lower"
for the upper and lower capsules of the microphone (when held vertically).
The two 1.8-micron ribbons are of pure aluminum (99.99%), each weighing
approximately 1/3 milligram and producing superb transient response.
The magnet/polepiece structure allows a wide uniform frequency range

The new SF-24 stereo ribbon microphone
is a phantom powered version of our popular SF-12 stereo ribbon microphone,
combining the SF-12’s high quality audio performance, outstanding
stereo separation and imaging with our exclusive active electronics
system for ribbon microphones. The SF-24’s output of -38 dB is a full
14 dB more sensitive than our non-powered SF-12, putting its sensitivity
on par with that of phantom powered condenser microphones. The unique
electronics and custom designed FET’s used in the SF-24 allow for
ultra-quiet operation, with self-noise of lower than 18 dB.

Our AT-84 shock, the only shock we've
offered until now, is excellent for the R-121 and SF-1 mics. But the
longer bodied SF-12 stereo ribbon and R-122 phantom powered ribbon
mics have a tendency to “lean” a little with the AT-84, especially
when you position the mics horizontally (as with drum overheads).
The RSM-1 gives a more secure hold without any lean, and it's special
orientation slots make pulling a mic out of the shock from the cable
end impossible. The orientation slots also let you position the mics
forward or backwards (for backward tracking with the R-121 and R-122
mics). While the RSM-1 is specially made to fit Royer microphones,
it will also work with any 1-inch diameter mic.
